Guide to Referees

• Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript and the review process.
• Objectivity: Provide unbiased, constructive, and respectful feedback.
• Timeliness: Complete reviews within the stipulated timeframe to ensure timely processing of manuscripts.
• Conflict of Interest: Decline the review if a conflict of interest exists that could impair impartiality.
• Clarity: Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments and references.

Author’s Guidelines

• Manuscripts must be prepared in English using Microsoft Word (MS).
• Use Times New Roman font, size 12, with double line spacing.
• The paper should not exceed 8000 words (excluding references).
• Include an abstract of no more than 250 words, typed single-spaced.
• Provide 4-5 keywords.
• Manuscripts must follow this structure:
  • Title page
  • Paper Title
  • Author(s) details: Name(s), affiliation(s), emails, and ORCID (if available)
  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Literature review
  • Methodology
  • Results/Findings
  • Conclusion
  • References

Tables, Figures, and Plates

• Include all tables and figures in the body, numbered with Arabic numerals, and cited in numerical order.
• Provide a caption (title) for each table and figure.
• Use the table function, not spreadsheets.
• Provide formulas using the equation editor.
• Use a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for all images.
• Follow APA 7th edition for table and figure design, citations, and references.

Cover Letter

All submissions must include a cover letter with:

• The aim of the paper
• The key findings
• The significance of the paper
• The contributions of each author (for multi-author papers)

Author’s Consent

All authors must consent to the submitted manuscript. The journal assumes that the corresponding author acts on behalf of and with the permission of all co-authors. All authors are expected to have contributed to the writing of the paper.

Initial Appraisal

All articles in the LASU – Journal of Environmental Sciences (LASU-JES) are subjected to initial appraisal by the editors. If found suitable for further consideration, they are sent for peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees.

• Submitted articles should not have been previously published or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
• All peer reviews are double-blind, and submissions are made through email.
• Two reviewers (blind) are assigned per paper.
• The review process takes a maximum of 4 weeks.
• Decisions are made by a panel of 3 editors.
• Manuscripts outside the aim and scope of the journal are rejected without external review.

Decision Process

Based on the reviewers' advice and comments, the editors make decisions according to the following:

• Accept manuscript without modification.
• Accept manuscript with minor editorial corrections.
• Manuscript requires minor revisions.
• Manuscript requires major revisions.
• Submit manuscript to another journal.
• Reject manuscript.

Reviewer Selection

The selection of reviewers is a crucial part of the publication process and is based on many factors, including expertise, reputation, and experience in the given field.

Reviewer Evaluation

The reviewer’s evaluation form contains five main aspects of the reviewing process:

• Originality: The extent to which the work presents new ideas or approaches.
• Contribution to the Field: The significance of the work to the field of study.
• Technical Quality: The accuracy and validity of the methods and results.
• Clarity of Presentation: The organization and readability of the manuscript.
• Depth of Research: The thoroughness and rigor of the research.

Anonymity

The reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout the review process and beyond. The comments of the reviewers are sent to the authors without any modifications.

LASU-JES Publication Policy

LASU-JES is committed to upholding high academic and ethical standards. Only original articles are considered for publication. All manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure quality and integrity.

• Manuscripts failing plagiarism assessments are automatically rejected.
• The journal is published annually, with accepted papers appearing in the next scheduled issue.
• Upon acceptance, authors are required to pay a publication fee of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N25,000.00).
• The journal is disseminated through its website.
